The Basic Handling Skills Test fails riders on clutch control far more than on nerve. We drill the five manoeuvres until they stop being manoeuvres and start being how you ride.

Restricted Licence
Your Restricted CBTA assessment is on real roads with real traffic. Add coaching time beforehand and we ride the routes you will be assessed on.

Assessment day
No surprises
on the day
Feeling a bit nervous about your CBTA assessment? That's completely normal. Here's exactly how the day runs, so you know what to expect.
Not quite ready?
No problem. Book a coaching session with me first, before your assessment or on its own. We'll work on whatever you'd like.

Arrival and paperwork
Bring your photo ID (your licence is fine). We'll go through the assessment form together first, so everything's sorted before you ride.
- 02
Bike and gear check
You'll ride your own motorcycle for the assessment, so I'll take a quick look at it first: warrant, registration, tyres, brakes, lights and chain, plus your helmet and gear. A bike that doesn't pass this check can't be assessed, so it's worth checking everything the night before.
- 03
Briefing
I'll explain what the assessment covers and how the Cardo intercom works. Ask me as many questions as you like. There are no tricks or surprises.
- 04
The assessment ride
You ride on real roads in real traffic, and I follow you on my bike. I only use the Cardo intercom to give you directions, with no coaching during the assessment, so you can focus on riding the way you've practised. I'm looking at positioning, observation, following distance, hazard response and intersections.

Result and debrief
You get your result on the day. If you've met the standard, I'll sign you off. If not, I'll go through exactly what to work on and what a pass looks like, so you know your next step.
03 / Riders
Absolutely brilliant experience. The instructor was patient, clear, and made me feel completely at ease. Passed my Restricted first time.
I had tried another instructor previously and was nervous, but the calm and methodical approach here made all the difference.
Professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping you succeed. Worth every cent.
Booked my BHST practice and CBTA Restricted in the same week. Both sessions were excellent.
Great communication before the session and superb instruction on the day. My confidence on the bike has transformed.
